Welcome Welcome welcome to the very first episode in our journey together, I am so grateful to kick off this experience with you here in my community!
In this episode we’re going to redefine wellbeing in a way that puts you back into the driver’s seat of your life, health and happiness. I’m going to share some pretty confronting elements of my life journey in hopes to inspire you for what’s possible in yours,
and we’re going to round out the episode with two game-changing insights that absolutely changed the way I perceive, create and respond to my reality so that you can truly understand the energy and intelligence within you to create change in your life no matter what season you are in.
Before we dive in let’s first get to know each other, just so you know if you can trust this chic taking up your headspace right now and so you can get a feel for my mission and vision for how I hope this podcast can impact your life.
My name is Jemaine Finlay, and I’m notoriously known for being the motivator in the room, with magnetic energy and a gift of the gab. I’m wildly imaginative when it comes to what I want to create in my life and spend a lot of time day dreaming and ultimately manifesting my life of adventure and flow with this incredibly handsome man who I get to share it with and who makes me feel so loved and supported in all my audacious ambtions. We’re nestled in a beach shack down on the south west coast of Australia with our fur baby border-collie Max, and despite to the outside world it looking like I’m always waste deep in various projects (I will admit I 100% have uncontrolled shiny object syndrome) my life in this season feels effortless, joyful and … exciting.
But it wasn’t always this way.
Over the past 10 years I’ve pivoted my career from hospitality, through personal training, to PCOS and fertility coaching, I built out one of the first naturopathic programs in Australia to treat polycystic ovary syndrome with another naturopath and PhD in reproductive medicine. I did 5 years of study for my bachelor in health science to become a naturopath and worked alongside leaders in the field of women’s health, before starting my own business where I have supported numerous women with complaints ranging from autoimmune disease, gut issues, weight loss, period issues, fertility, anxiety, mental health concerns, endometriosis among others.
I then began to recognise that despite all of these tools I could offer women to reclaim their health, there were deeper roots often unspoken of in healthcare. The dis-ease that proceeds the disease.
I found patterns with my clients. Specific physical complaints reflecting similar patterns of buried emotion carried throughout life. Specific systems in the body reflecting specific life events – big T trauma like sexual abuse, violence or dysfunctional upbringing, and little t traumas such as a longing for love, sense of abandonment, inherited grief, and perceptions of threatened safety. I also recognised that all of my clients – despite seeing me for various different ailments, all struggled with self-loath, self-doubt, and self-sabotage that further fed the stress that was changing their physiology. So, I took the next step into NLP or neurolinguistic programming to help clients with changing the language of the brain and my god did I learn a lot about myself through these teachings. I then took it a level deeper and studied with the Heartmath Institute to learn a modality which aligns with a lot of Joe Dispenza’s work involving the science around heart brain coherence and how to align brain wave frequency with heart rhythm through feelings of love and gratitude.
I evolved both personally and professionally through dimensions of physical to metaphysical and along that journey found the science that validates it all. I became obsessed with human behaviour and why we do what we do and fell in love with bridging the gap between science and spirituality.
Now, while all this seems pretty cool, and it’s definitely an evolution I’m incredibly proud of, I want to be totally honest on the reality of it. Because like I said – I’m also human navigating this life experience, and I can tell you now – none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for incredible pain and a point of crisis in my life that was my catalyst for change and hunger to seek the answers to help impact the lives of others.
See, there’s something magical about story telling. You undoubtedly could not have a story like mine. Nor me like yours. But there is this natural force within the human experience that brings interconnectedness. We see the world through our own bias lens. Our brain deletes, distorts, and generalises the information in the world around us to validate our own experience, and in doing so, we insert our own experience into the story of another to feel that we understand or can relate on some level. So, I know, that what I will share with you today isn’t a story like your own, but I also know it will illuminate some learnings, resonance, and perception shifts that can free you from yours.
But before we dive into the junk in the trunk of my past… I want to start with you, what are you here for? What made you hit a personal development podcast about wellness?
Whether aware of it or not, I’m sure there are struggles that are causing friction in your life that maybe you just can’t put your finger on.
Maybe it’s your inner dialogue?
Maybe, you just wish you could get out of your own bloody way and get your shit together in some area of your life.
I don't know where I'm meeting you right now. I don't know if you earn enough money that you're happy with. I don't know if you feel like you have deep, real connections and intimacy in with those who you love. I also don't know if you feel like you're making progress at the speed that you want in your life. But here's what I can tell you, and what I do know — all of those things, your wealth, your relationships, your work, your progress in life all come back to this concept of wellbeing.
So, what comes to mind for your when you think of wellbeing?
Here are some things you’re not going to hear me talk about on this podcast – diet & exercise for one, and possible not much of yoga, or meditation either.
So, what is wellness?
Have you ever felt trapped in a season of your life? Like, you know something needs to give, but don’t know what. You feel stretched financially, works impacting your relationships, you’ve got a growing list of things you’d love to do but just don’t have time, and despite all the money you’re throwing out there to get you ahead, you still feel like you’re treading water.
Do you find your actions don’t align with your intentions? Like - you want to lose weight, or maybe take up study, give up the booze or clean up your diet to clear your skin but…. That self-sabotage kicks you off the bandwagon yet again.
Maybe you feel like your mind has 1000 tabs open, and you’re constantly trying to complete and close each tab whilst simultaneously keeping everyone happy and ultimately sacrificing your own happiness and wellbeing.
You’re not alone. These are examples from my life, and the lives of the hundreds of people I’ve worked with over the years.
The truth is not even the best diet and exercise plan can help you if you are living out of alignment, there are so many dimensions to your wellbeing beyond the physical.
If you’re feeling stretched in every direction, or tormented by inner dialogue, or incongruent between your intentions and behaviour. Good nutrition, yoga, meditation, daily movement would be helpful, especially in times of stress, but let’s be honest – are they the first thing you turn to in these moments. If you’re exhausted, do you reach for a green juice and get an early night, or do you reach for chocolate and rely on coffee to keep pushing through? The reality is stress biochemistry overrides conscious intention to help you stay afloat. And very often it’s the unconscious ways we’ve learned to survive until this point that run the show.
And look, I’m a naturopath. I know food is medicine, exercise is medicine, supplements absolutely can support your health. But these tools are so unique to every individual, and even for that individual, will change with the seasons. And the honest truth – if you have practiced and perfected limiting behaviours to this point, or are totally unaware of the subtle perceptions of your psyche that govern why you do what you do – then you’re still living in the environment that creates the very issue youre trying to fix with an outside source. Very often, we’ve got to go inward and excavate before we can start laying the foundations for a different reality.
We have to become conscious to override the conscious, and that takes practice.
I see it so often, for myself and my clients. We get in our own way, right? We self-sabotage, or put things off, or come up with all these excuses that excuse us from looking at and after ourselves.
Maybe you planned to start that diet but now your partners on the couch with a block of chocolate and before your well intentions can even intercept, your 3 rows in and fighting for the last square.
We know what we “should do” but we don’t. Maybe you tell yourself you can’t afford it, or you don’t have time, or it’s hard because…. Or I would but I don’t have…. Or I don’t know… or I’ll start again next week because I have the birthday, or work do this week.
So often we spend sooooo much time and money chasing that grand intention to be well, but, there is a being beneath the behaviour and despite living in an age of infinite resources to achieve said thing, we don’t. WE get in our on way.
To really be a wellbeing, we need to understand why we do what do. And no two people will have the same answer to that question. Which also means no two people will resonate with the same approach to finding their sense of wellbeing, their spice for life, or their modality for healing.
HOWEVER – one thing we do have in common is what governs us universally, and that is energy and mind … and there are specific tools that everyone can do that will allow us all to feel that peace that comes with alignment. That is what you’ll come to understand in this podcast, and I’m going to dive into this deeper shortly.
Wellbeing, in my definition, is how well you are being in life, in your relationships, in your career, in your mind, in your connection with self and others – it’s all wellness. The overall way you approach this concept of wellness defines who you are, how you're showing up in the world, and unless you take time the time to get acquainted with this being, behaviour runs the show – and that’s no word of a lie – science shows us that by the time we turn 30 up to 95% of what we do each day is on autopilot. Meaning only 5% of our day is in our conscious control, the other 95% is past practiced thought’s emotions and behaviour that we’ve literally practiced, perfected and hardwired in our brain– scary right?!
But don’t let that freak you out. You’ll learn a lot on this podcast that our brain is not fixed, and you absolutely have the power to change every element of your life, health and self when you put your mind to it. Science shows us it is literally mind over matter.
Wellbeing is the essence for all of who you are. Your relationships, your health and even shadows from your past. So, if you’re wondering what we’re going to cover on this podcast, that’s it. Everything! It’s All Wellness.
So, I’m going to share with you a bit of my story because I believe there is something magical about story telling.
You undoubtedly could not have a story like mine. Nor me like yours. But there is this natural force within the human experience that brings interconnectedness. We see the world through our own bias lens. Our brain deletes, distorts, and generalises the information in the world around us to validate our own experience, and in doing so, we insert our own experience into the story of another to give the impression we understand or can relate on some level. So, I know, that what I share with you now isn’t a story like your own, but I also know it will illuminate some learnings, resonance, and perception shifts that can free you from yours.
So, let’s rewind back 10 years.
When I made the pivot away from hospitality I was totally burnt out. I recognised that I was sacrificing my health, my relationships and my social life for someone else’s dreams and profit and I was so beyond done. I started my cert in personal training and lasted 3 months in the industry before recognising it was superficial, I knew I could help people at a deeper level and so I enrolled myself into college. << And I thought I was done with the burn out – boy oh boy, I wasn’t even getting started!
To cut a long story short, by my final year of study I found myself in a place of suicidal ideation – I was always the “happy girl”. Full of energy, inspiring and motivating others (on the outside). But on the inside, I was incredibly lonely, lost, and spiralling out of control.
This brings me to a point I want to raise around mental health – No one ever asks the “happy person” how they’re going, right? The conversations in the mental health space put so much emphasis on recognising red flag behaviour for depression – but those red flags do not mirror the mental health sufferings of someone headed for burn out – when you’re running on cortisol and adrenaline you can often come across as a powerful, confident, high energy, go getter – now is that what comes to mind when you think of someone struggling with mental health?? I encourage everyone to take this on board because in this season of my life I wouldn’t have labelled myself with a mental health issue, so, I didn’t even know myself that I needed to ask for help. My mind ever so slowly shifted from “I just need a break” I just need a holiday, I wish I could run away, I wish I could hit reset, I wonder if I could bring myself to drive off a bridge? Would anyone even notice I’m gone, I’m so isolated in my life that no one would actually find my body until my partner comes home in a weeks’ time.
These thoughts didn’t plague me day-to-day, because I never gave myself a moment of silence to stop and feel what was happening. It was only in those moments when my partner would be away at work, and I’d be lying in bed tired and wired that I’d get flooded with the realities of it all.
So, this was my slippery slope of stress…
for years I put work ahead of my relationships and self-care. I put exercise ahead of my sleep. And my strive for perfection left me constantly hitting a wall.
I took so much pride in my work that it was to my detriment. The stress changed the way I showed up in life. It changed the way I handled situations. It isolated me from friends and family, and with time it took its toll on my physical body. Weight gain, anxiety, depression, binge eating. At 26 I was told that I would unlikely be able to conceive naturally because I hadn't had a period in two years. I was in and out of Dr’s offices searching for validation that something was off, yet no one took me seriously because 1. I was young, and “in my prime” 2. my BMI was in range and 3. and my thyroid and hormone pathology was just within range by a point – so despite my worsening symptoms I was, in their words “perfectly fine” and just another “watch and wait” patient like every other woman who eventually found themselves in my office in later years. (I’ll do a whole episode on my frustrations with the medical system I promise!)
I went from extreme calorie-controlled dieting and OCD exercise to uncontrollable binge eating and severe self-loath. During this time, I’d tried everything to feel good – thinking that having the perfect body was what it meant to be healthy and achieving success was my path to feel good. So, my energy, money and increasing frustration was invested into medications, supplements, exercise programs, fad diets, you name it, I tried it. It changed the way I showed up in my relationships and in my business – I felt like a fraud. Here I was trying to study and teach wellness, but I felt so out of control with my own health.
Take note of this
** Knowledge is only potential power. Everyone in the personal development space says “knowledge is power” but so many of us are hoarders of information yet do nothing with it, right! It’s integration that causes transformation.
See, had the knowledge. I had the degree in health science, I had studied anatomy and physiology and nutritional medicine, psychology and pathology, and I was getting incredibly successful results for my patients, but was I practicing it myself? – no! EVEN THOUGH I had all the knowledge and tools to improve my health, and even though research and professional experience consistently validated results, I didn’t practice what I preached. Because the being beneath my behaviour was very much being driven by unconscious beliefs systems of unworthiness, fear, and control that I had carried with my from childhood. Information + integration = transformation. I had to do the inner work.
It got to a point, 4 years into my degree when friends and family would tell me, “Jem, you need to take a break, something needs to give – by this point I was in full time study and undertaking my clinical prac whilst simultaneously taking on business coaching courses, working 2 jobs, swimming in accumulating debt and trying to manage a FIFO house hold and a relationship that was barely hanging on. I knew something had to give, but what!
Right before I had my first awakening, I had taken a trip to South America where I spent time with Shamans in the Andes practicing various plant medicines and spiritual teachings – The last words I said to my partner of the time – I’m going away for a month, use this time to think about what you want, because right now I feel like I’m banging my head against the wall, I can’t stay in this relationship if it continues like this. I packed my bags and took off with my mum - I agreed to do this trip with her thinking this would help her addictions and heal our past, little did I know she took me to get me out of an environment that she could clearly see was killing me!
This was the first time I’d realised how numb I was. Physically, mentally, spiritually. Each ceremony we’d set an intention for the medicine, and mine was to just feel something again– anything. Yet, every night we took ayahuasca I sat there, totally numb to the experience as I watched 20 people around me scream, purge, cry, and heal through their pain. Why! Why am I so numb and disconnected?
I returned home, feeling even more anger toward my mum – I’ll speak to this story in another episode about addiction, childhood trauma and coping patterns - and I was feeling even more messed up because now I realised not only did I feel helpless in my life – but even the most potent medicine in the world and shamanic healing couldn’t help me.
It did though. It was only a matter of days of returning that I felt the subtle shift.
I distinctly remember the day it hit me.
Sitting in my backyard at breaking point. Not knowing if I even wanted to pursue this degree I’d been invested 4 years of my life to. Not knowing if I was the problem in my relationship or him. Not knowing where to start in recovering the debt which I thought was the issue underneath it all.
I asked, what if? What if I quit my job? What if I pulled out of uni? What if I left my partner, what if I didn’t pay dad back the 6k I loaned for the business course I didn’t even have time to do?
The sound of my friends’ voices plagued my mind – “I don’t want to burden you Jem, I know your busy”.” I know you probably don’t have time Jem, but just putting the offer out there” – It hit me. The identity I had created for myself.
In that moment I had had enough, and I made a promise to live life on my own terms. I wasn’t going to be the person who it feels like you’re walking on egg shells to be around. I wasn’t going to be the friend that’s never there. I wasn’t going to be the naturopath preaching the healthy lifestyle but secretly binging on chocolate, living of coffee and functioning on 4 hours sleep every night.
And so it was.
The choices that followed that day weren’t easy at all – but the liberation came from just that – realising that I did have choices, hard ones yes. But I wasn’t trapped like I had led myself to believe.
I left a relationship of 4 years, I quit my jobs and courses, I put my head down and finished my final year of college, I went all in on my business, and I grew.
Did I fall back to old patterns – yes. Did I get stressed? Yes. Did I binge eat and have late nights? Yes, but I recognised the patterns, and the more I became aware, the more I practiced breaking the habit loops, and with time, a new practiced personality became my personal reality.
I can hand on heart now say that if I looked at a life wheel and scored myself on 7 areas of physical health, emotions, relationship, self-love, work, finances, and contribution (which were a flat zero until about 5 years ago) I can confidently tell you I’m pretty high up on almost all of them (finances can definitely use some work I won’t lie) – but my physical health, emotional health, relationship, self-love, career and direction all score pretty high. And I’m not perfect, I still continue to do the work, because different seasons call for different priorities and such is the ebb and flow of life with highs and lows.
If you want to check in and see how you’re scoring in these areas of life, visit my website www.jemainefinlay.com and take the WILD Quiz, where you can see how you’re scoring in wellness, income, love (for self and in relationships), lifestyle and direction and receive some resources and actions steps for how you can start to level up to the wild life you deserve.
Previously, I was chasing time. Now, I buy time with intention. Previously I was chasing achievement, now I embrace fulfillment. And although I live at a slower pace, I get soooo much more done, while simultaneously finding joy in each day and spending quality time with loved ones.
This is what happens when you make shifts in your perceptions of reality and commit to create internal alignment that can genuinely lead to success in every single area of your life.
It takes responsibility.
And I guess this is the brief part of this episode where it might feel a little serious for minute. I am that cruisy go with the flow, fun and light hearted chic, but I take what I do seriously so I do want to lend to a little peptalk here only because I think it will create huge awareness for how you can get back into the driver’s seat of your life if you feel like you’re feeling stuck, or passing by on autopilot.
My friend, Your life, your health, your relationships, your income, your career, your environments both internal and external – it’s all your responsibility. Now don’t get responsibility confused with fault. I am not saying what has happened to you is your fault. There are things in life that happen to us and around us that are outside of our control, and when I say it’s your responsibility, I am not saying you are to blame for things that have happened or are happening.
Responsibility is purely your ability to respond. It comes back to choice and personal power. If someone says or does something, you have no control over their opinion or behaviour – you do however have a choice in that moment – do I get angry, do I retaliate, do I submiss, do I swallow my words or do I share how I really feel or do I try to prove them wrong – there are so many ways you could respond in that moment. Realise this and you realise your fait isn’t at the hand of another, your choices determine your outcome.
Maybe something pretty severe has happened to you. I am not saying this is your fault. I am saying there is still an element of personal responsibility. The Buddhists say that any time we suffer misfortune, two arrows fly our way. Being struck by an arrow is painful. Being struck by a second arrow is even more painful. “In life, we can’t always control the first arrow. However, the second arrow is our reaction to the first. The second arrow is optional.”
A traumatic event is painful, but it the meaning we give to the event, and the thought processes, emotions and behaviours during and following the event that anchor the memory and allow us to relive the suffering that perpetuates damage. Even leading trauma expert Dr Gabor Mate is adamant that trauma is not an excuse for not taking personal responsibility.
And friends I don’t say this light heartedly. This isn’t textbook for me, it runs deep in my veins.
At 8 years old I was kidnapped and sexually abused. I also lived a pretty turbulent upbringing, I never lived in a place longer than 2 years for all of my schooling, I lived with a mother struggling with addiction to mask her own pains, I moved a lot around shared housing with other families, I’ve had two brothers taken away who I’ve not seen for over 18 years, I moved in with my dad in my teens at a time of deep depression in his life, My best friend’s life was tragically taken at 16… there were a lot of things. None of which were my fault. Many of which I was too young to consciously take responsibility for how I choose to let them affect me, however here I am.
You have an ability to respond to events happening around you today, and those in your past – that is your responsibility. To feel and to heal. Because if you don’t, and you choose to remain unconscious and a victim to people, circumstances and things around you, there will be a ripple effect, not only throughout your life, but into the lives of others.
This is a topic that I’m actually writing a whole book on because I am so passionate about this. Hurt people hurt people. And I want to illuminate that not all Trauma is with a capitol T. Little t trauma can be as subtle as a child’s unmet needs from a well-intentioned parent who they themselves are stress and not truly present.
If you’re stressed and living in survival you are reacting to life from a place of self rather than unity, fear over love. And think about that word for a moment. Reacting. You are re-acting past practiced behaviour, and I can tell you now, if those patterns haven’t found you peace thus far, you cannot expect it to any time in the future either.
That’s the end of that little peppy – but I truly want you to appreciate the importance of your life and recognise that if you are not happy, only you have the power to change that. It may be alongside a therapist or a coach, I’m not saying you have to do it alone but all of us need to do the work if we’re going to expect a more harmonious humanity.
I included this piece because so many people are walking around in pain, thinking that no one else will get it and everyone else has it all together. My personal and professional experience tells me otherwise.
I’ve devoted my life to empowering people in taking back control in their life. I’m in a lifelong relationship with research in attempts to understand what it truly is to be a wellbeing. Research that comes from the world of transformational leadership, positive psychology, neuroscience, quantum physics, neuroimmune-ology and endocrinology, epigenetics, evolutionary biology, the most recent science and research in the field of health as well as the concepts of healing that have come from centuries of tradition in western and eastern medicine. What I have learnt so far in my experience and my research over the years is that the answer isn’t out there like we’ve been led to believe. There is no “one fix or solution”. And the more we search for answers out there, the further away we get from the truth in here.
Life is learning. Growth comes through challenge. Evolution comes through crisis. And this is reflected all around you.
In the most simplistic example, if you’re someone who regularly exercises you know that in order to grow muscle strength you must apply a stress that breaks the muscle down first, the growth happens during recovery.
Look at how we entered this life. We came out of the darkness through a traumatic event and into the light where we then grow and impact lives around us.
Look outside in nature. A beautiful flower or an abundant fruit tree had to first crack through a seed, push its way through soil, withstand heat, frost, wind, drought and an unpredictable and changing environment, its gets picked at by pests and peed on by animals and yet if it survives the end result is beauty and contribution.
This is part of the reason for why much of this podcast will be interviews with others. More often than not, those who have been through the hardest journey have discovered their truth and feel compelled to use their pain for purpose, and shine a light for others through their dark days.
These are laws in nature. Any animal prior to human existence adapted to the stressors of the environment, evolving over generations to become different genetically to survive and reproduce in their dominant environment. When crises prevails, we don’t grow, we transform.
I hope so far you mind has expanded, and I’ve encouraged some reflection and introspection. Now, I want to make it more practical for you.
I spoke earlier about life being constructs of energy and mind. Energy and intention. Now I want to make this understanding visual for you to round out this episode leaving you feeling empowered toward making change in your life. I now manifestation is very vogue right now and some like me live by it, while others feel it’s a bit woo woo.
I’m a gal who likes to understand the nuts and bolts on the how and why of everything, if you’re in the camp of its woo woo, let me make it more palatable for you.
First – everything is energy.
Let’s look at you.
You, at the smallest entity are energy. Within your cells are atoms, containing protons and electrons – both of which are energy. When you start to recognise that everything in material form that you can see and touch, including ourselves, is just energy, and when you take what we know about energy – that it can be negative, positive or neutral, that it can repel and attract, you can better understand the power you have within you.
Emotions – they are energy. In fact, I’d love you to plug into your mobile search engine right now “Hertz vibration scale” Hertz as in energy H.e.r.t.z. then click on images.
You’ll see a colour scale with a list of emotions and a number next to it. That number reflects the measurable energetic charge of those emotions. You’ll see somewhere in the middle at around 250 is neutrality and below that emotions of anger 150, desire 125, fear 100 grief 75, apathy50, guilt 30 and shame 20. These are considered low vibrational emotions and what can be considered contracted energy. Now, think about a time that you have felt one of these emotions, maybe guilt or shame or grief – what happened to your body during that time?
Often, when in a state of this lower vibrational energy our physiology contracts. We speak slower and soften, our body draws in, we don’t want to be seen or take up space, maybe your shoulder slump and your head angles down.
Now think about a time when you’ve been filled with love (a vibration of 500), maybe the day your partner got down on one knee and proposed, or joy (540) – when you’ve seen a dolphin or been filled with excitement at show. Think about your body in that state.
These can be considered expansive emotions, and often in these times you’ll notice naturally you smile, you stand tall and confident, maybe you speak a little higher pitched or faster, and become more animated. Moments of joy often call the body to action as we spontaneously point something out to someone or when your team wins, and you shoot our arms up in celebration.
What I would love for you to do today, and for the remainder of your week is to simply become the observer within your life. What causes you to contract, and what lights you up and makes you feel expansive. What kind of people, conversations, environments, foods, activities leave you feeling energised, and what ones leave you feeling flat or even depleted. Because awareness proceeds change.
This was a huge catalyst for making big changes in my life. I started to recognise that some friendships in my life left me feeling depleted, whilst others I’d come home and feel like I’d been plugged into charge, I’d follow my partner around the house excited to tell them all about my day. I recognised when I wasn’t feeling confident with a certain task, for example new to a role in administration when the phone would ring I noticed I would stoop at my desk and cave in around the phone and speak really soft, in contrast to taking a friend to my favourite restaurant and pointing out my favourite things on the menu I’d want to try.
Be the observer, you’ll be surprised to find often the answer we’re seeking in life in terms of the next step toward health and happiness, are right there in front of us.
But that’s not all, think about this….
Have you ever thought about an experience from yesterday, or even from years ago and felt your body change in the present moment? Or have you ever focused on something in the future, a situation that hasn’t yet and may not even happen, and felt your body respond right there in that moment? There is no threat, no predator, no present conflict or catastrophe, and yet you felt the energy of your body change. Within a moment you can create the sadness, the anger, or the fear and it’s enough to elicit the heart to start racing, the muscles to tense, the feeling to materialise in the body from a visual construct that is only of the mind.
You think about sucking on a sour lemon, and you mouth salivates. You walk into Bunnings on a Sunday and smell the sausage sizzle and your tummy gurgles. You think about something sexy, and guys you’re the greatest example of this right – Hello to a bit of movement in the pants.
Can you see where I’m going here? Energy and mind.
So, what does all of this have to do with manifestation.
Well – If you know that your biochemistry and physical sensations in your body are changing at the result of a thought – past or anticipated future, real or imagined, then what do you suppose happens when you intentionally focus on positive things? What happens when you think back on moments where you’ve felt loved, where you’ve laughed uncontrollably, or if you meditate and visualise a future you dream of walking into. Just like you would create anxiety by stacking and catastrophing in your mind, what could you create if within your mind you saw a future moment where you had achieved something you’d been working towards, you felt the love and appreciation of the people around you, and you created a sensory experience for a future that hasn’t yet happened in the present moment now.
Anything can happen. And if you want to look more into this to understands the decades of research that support quantum healing look into the works of Joe Dispenza, Bruce Lipton, and Deepak Chopra. This isn’t woo woo stuff. This is sadly information that is suppressed because who can capitalise of healthy individuals who understand that they are the medicine?
Powerful right.
Let’s look deeper at the unseen for more inspiration of what you can call into your life.
No doubt you use a smart phone, laptop, television, and/or radio. Think of how a radio or television work. All of those unseen waves of information and potential, waiting for you to select the right channel and tune in. You can’t see or hear any of this information until you turn on your phone, turn on the television, turn on the radio, turn on the song. You decide what information you want to receive, you select your channel, or “tune to the right frequency”, and just like that, you have this information in a tangible form. And you don’t question it.
Tapping into the unseen is the basis for everything we use today, electricity, technology, medical devices, and communication.
So, if we know that everything is energy. We are energy. And waves of information and potential are within us and surround us. If we have already been modelled that we just need to be intentional with tapping into the frequency that we want to tune into and we can make the unseen seen and this is a part of our everyday life. Why then, do we question the power of manifestation.?
Everything is energy and remember energy can repel or attract. Energy is the basis of becoming magnetic.
Now while all of that is pretty cool – there’s more to this.
If you thought I geeked out a bit talking about energy, stay with me because I’m taking it to another level, but it is really going to illuminate how your practiced personality is creating your personal reality. I’ll try to make this part brief so we can pop out the other end I can give you a new perspective on this thing called life.
So, there is this portion of your brain that is actually designed to help you filter reality. It’s called the reticular activating system and it’s what helps you unconsciously determine what is worthy of your conscious attention and filters out that which isn’t. In fact, through your 5 senses there is over 11 million bits of information per second being sent to the brain for processing, yet the conscious mind seems to be able to process only 50 bits per second.
And that’s bits in the technical term, its actually more like 4+/- actual chunks of information that you can consciously process in a given moment. This could be the sound of me in your ears, the wind blowing the tree outside, the sound of the ticking clock or humming fridge in the background, the sensation of your headphones in your ears, your heart beating in your chest or even the tickle in the back of your throat.
So, think about that for a moment. Of 11 million bits of information your brain receives in a second, your reality is shaped by 4+/- chunks of information. You are deleting a significant portion of the reality to create your unique perception of reality.
So how does the brain know what’s important? This is based on your belief systems, experiences and past practiced thoughts, emotions and behaviours to this point in time, which are shaped by the stacked senses, experiences, and perceptions that you’ve created, and validated throughout a lifespan.
So, if there is an unconscious sense of abandonment or threatened safety from your childhood, the lens of your reality may very much be influenced by that. As an example, that may carry into your relationships and influence how you show up in a relationship and how you perceive the other person is treating you.
And this is why I mentioned at the top of the episode, life is the construct of energy and mind. Intention (whether conscious or unconscious) directs the energy that we are aligning to each day. If you believe that lifelong relationships don’t exist because your parents divorced as a kid and you were cheated on in high school, and all of your friends were raised by single mums, then you are going to step into a relationship looking for validation that it won’t last. If you believe you have to work hard for money and your parents modelled exhaustion and working around the clock then despite the infinite resources around you to change your financial situation and create wealth and legacy, you will only see inputs in your environment that validate you must exchange your time for money and there is no other way around that.
Again, once I became aware of this epic piece of insight, I started to be more intentional with my life. I started to become more compassionate toward others and open minded to possibility because I could understand that my truth wasn’t necessarily the truth. I could also understand that the majority of people walking through life without this awareness are on autopilot, being driven by their past and anticipating a different future. That their opinions and actions where projections of the past pain as a way of their brain keeping them safe, and this can carry out in empowering or disempowering behaviour, depending on their level of consciousness and intention within their life.
You don’t see the world as it is you see the world as you are.
And here’s a piece that is purely my opinion that I personally find to be quite liberating.
There is no truth beyond that of the laws of nature. Everything we know today, what is “right” and what is “wrong”, the rules, the guidelines, the systems, and institutions is someone’s truth, but not necessarily THE truth. So, in our time together, I challenge you to explore what is true for you.
The human is the vessel to bring words to experience. Even the very first truth came through the bias lens of its teacher, based on their experience and perceptions. How can we say then that it’s universal truth? Truth does not exist. Life is purely perception, created by the mind. For many this is imprisonment. But when you become conscious, and intentionally tap into the energy around you, the energy that is you, you free yourself. There are no longer rules and expectations for everything and everyone around you. Truth is not outside of you. Truth comes from within.
My hope is that through this podcast humanity can feel the experience of universal truths. Feel the liberation through storytelling, see the patterns, and the lean into the power of aligning to love or above.
Throughout the podcast I’ll sprinkle in some of my truths. Personal truths that include behaviours of people in my life whom I love most. Society may have a truth that says these behaviours are wrong, unjust, or unforgiveable. But my truth says there is a being beneath the behaviour. Behaviour is just a projection of the inner world. When you choose to avoid the pain and swallow the emotion, it will unconsciously live through you.
